The Dramatic Improvement Method
The Drîm Method is a continuous improvement process for applying the Drîm Manifesto and Dimensions to a challenging situation or thing.
The Dramatic Improvement Method
It's nearly always better to improve in stages, repeatedly, over time - especially when a significant paradigm shift is required.
In addition to improving buy-in, staging also wastes less time, effort and money, by getting early feedback from the people and system. It's nigh impossible to get things right first-time!
The Drîm Method is a never-ending cycle. The previous solution is the either the next solution requirement or the cause of the current challenge and state.
The Drîm Method Flowchart
The Drîm Method is a simple set of steps for identifying and applying the Drîm Manifesto and Dimensions to a challenging situation or thing.
The Drîm Method Flowchart
Move down the flow-chart until your solution is good enough - for now. Skim - don't skip - steps if you like.
- Adopt the Drîm Mindset.
- Work out where to Intervene.
- Scan for Drîm Story matches.
- Scan for Arena Solution matches.
- Scan for Drîm Dimension Solution matches.
- Scan for Drîm Domain Solution matches.
- Develop a (set of) Custom Drîm Solution(s).
1. Adopt the Drîm Mindset
Everything else follows, almost naturally, from mindset.
1. Adopt the Drîm Mindset
The chances of finding a true breakthrough solution are orders of magnitude bigger if you're looking:
- For the right thing - a game-changing breakthrough.
- In the right place - where they hang out
- With the right expectation and conviction - that you'll find it
- With the appropriate method - looking for leverage across dimensions
- In collaboration with others.
2. The Drîm Intervention Framework
Intervening where it will make the difference is crucial.
2. The Drîm Intervention Framework
We tend to intervene at the places where we can make the most difference - rather than at the single a critical place that will make the most difference, end-to-end. Start by working out where to intervene :
- Solution Design?
- Intervention Design?
- Intervention Management?
These are actually a repeating cycle, each step comprising a diagnosis/design cycle and synchronising with the other steps.
3. Look for Drîm Story Matches
Nearly every drîm story has parallels with every other drîm story - but you have to look to find them.
3. Look for Drîm Story Matches
Stories are fantastic vehicles for conveying, storing and disseminating drîm solutions.
- View your challenging situation as a story.
- Look for parallels - even if only partial ones - in your library of dramatic improvement stories.
- You'll find that very few stories will have no parallels at all with your story - although it may seem that way at first.
- Work out how to apply the underlying princiiples from the matching stories to your one.
4. Look for Arena Solution Matches
Look for specific personal or organisational arena drin solutions to pattern your solution on.
4. Look for Arena Solution Matches
- Browse the related personal and/or organisational arenas (e.g. Relationships, Ingenuity, Marketing, Sales) looking for matching elements to your situation.
- Choose a specific solution - or set of them - from the collection within that Arena.
- Work out which elements of the arena solution apply most directly to your specific situation.
- Take a crack at applying the elements that don't match, to your situation - you'll be surprised!
5. Look for Dimension Solution Matches
Look for matches between the drîm dimensions and your situation, that you can pattern your solution on.
5. Look for Dimension Solution Matches
- Identify which of the Drîm Dimensions (Flow| Ingenuity|Change|Mastery|Synergy| Understanding) will have the biggest impact - all will apply in some way.
- Identify solutions in the relevant dimensions that apply to your situation.
- Adapt and apply them - independently at first, then in combination - to your situation.
- Enhance your solution until you're happy with it.
6. Look for Domain Solution Matches
Look for matches between the drîm domains and your situation, that you can pattern your solution on.
6. Look for Domain Solution Matches
- Identfy which of the Drîm Domains (People|Things or some specific combination of them).
- Identify solutions in the relevant domains that apply to your situation.
- Adapt and apply them - independently at first, then in combination - to your situation.
- Enhance your solution until you're happy with it.
7. Develop a Custom Drîm Solution
Develop your own solution, if none fo the previous steps provided a good enough solution.
7. Develop a Custom Drîm Solution
Develop and integrate a set of solutions for each of the most relevant Drîm Dimensions, using the Ingenuity and Understanding Dimension Techniques in combination with each of them.
- Choose an Arena (Marketing, Sales, Production, etc) from the Solutions in the Main Menu.
- Choose a specific solution - or set of them - from the collection within that Arena.
- Identify which of the solution elements seem to apply to your situation directly - and which don't seem to.
- Apply those solutions to your specific situation.
